Other Post Types

Apart from the basic blog post template there are other post types we are going to want to write and these include:

  • Listicle blog posts
  • Reviews or Comparison posts
  • ‘How To’ guides
  • Giant posts

We write these other post styles to keep our audience interested and engaged with our articles and to give our business a modern fresh look – a website with hundreds of the same looking blog posts would be boring and would convey that message.

Listicle Blog Post

Listicle blog posts are very popular especially for me entering the travel niche as people want to know ‘The top 10 places to go in Greece’ or ‘The best 5 items to pack in your travel bag’ – people like this kind of post and you’ll see it countless times on the first page of Google.

If you think this type of post will suit your niche then click the button and learn how to write a great listicle post.

Reviews/Comparison posts

Review/Comparison posts are where you give your view, likes & dislikes regarding a place, product or service.

These posts do well in the tech space and I always find myself looking at product reviews before buying a new phone for example.

In the travel space the one big player would be Tripadvisor – customers leave their reviews about restaurants, hotels, cities and this gives future holidaymakers an easier task of choosing their next dream trip.

'How To' guides

‘How To’ guides are super popular and make a great post choice, the first thing that springs to mind would be a recipe post or something in arts & crafts – I have read loads of posts on creating garden furniture out of pallets and things like that as I have been going through a garden project – these type of posts gain traction quite easily as they get shared between friends – quite often friends of mine will share a link in WhatsApp to a ‘How To’ guide.

Giant Posts

Giant Posts are seen as an authoritative post type and are seriously chunky coming in at <3000 words – they are full of information giving the reader expert analysis on a given subject – think Wikipedia and you’ll see how big these posts can get.

People don’t tend to read massive blog posts anymore – think back to the last time you read something online that took you a few minutes to read, most people just skim-read until they find their answer – but there are tricks in keeping people on the page.

If I was going for a ranking in a competitive space with big opposition then this is the post type I would craft – it’s a time consumer but you’ll keep people on the page and Google will love that.

Conclusion

Well done for learning how to write different styles of blog post – in the next course we will put these new skill sets to the test and start to create our website. See you there!
