Find A Profitable Niche
In this lesson we will look at interesting places to find good profitable niche ideas – after this lesson you will never run out of great niche ideas for your business.
Let’s go!
1. Make a list of topics that you have an interest in.
The reason I always start with topics that interest me is – I am more likely to stay focused on the project if I have an interest in the topic – it gets very tough and time consuming when you try to create content on a subject you know nothing about and have no interest in.
Here I will show you my favourite ways to get inspiration in choosing my niche – the reason I look for niches and not markets is because the niche is what we are interested in – that’s what we will study data on to choose a micro-niche, the market is just what groups it all together.
If your niche was Basketball what would be the outer layer – what emcompasses Basketball?
I would go with Sports – so it’s pretty easy to find your market should you wish to know it.
If you find yourself unable to scale up your idea from niche to market then you probably have chosen a market and need to scale it down to a niche.
Open up Excel or Goggle Sheets and create a spreadsheet where you can save all your niche ideas – this list is going to be so valuable for your business decisions.
1. Dummies.com
We have all seen those black and yellow books that have been made famous by dummies.com – I’m sure everyone has a copy of one of their titles somewhere!
This is where I always start when looking for a niche idea – let me explain.
Dummies.com is a huge company that has teams of market researchers who decide which topics to write about – they do all the nitty gritty work and release a book based on all the customer data they collect.
Taking a book to print is expensive so we can be very confident that people are searching for ALL these titles otherwise they wouldn’t of written about the subject.
Using this info we can ride on the coattails of dummies.com and create a list of niches that appeal to us.
You will find ALL the books at their website dummies.com or on Amazon.com – have a look through their books and start adding to your list of potential niches with subjects you find interesting, I’ve also added a list of 350 dummies titles.

2. Wikipedia – Hobbies List
The next place I go to is Wikipedia and search for a list of hobbies – this can be really interesting and I have found a ton of niche ideas from this page.
Everyone has hobbies or interests and these can make great niches to monetize as each one has a target audience.

Did you know what Gongoozling was? – nope nor me!
Take a good look through the hobbies list and note down on your niches list the ones that interest you – research a few new and quirky ideas to see if they interest you or not.
3. Magazine.co.uk
The next place I like to look is magazine.co.uk this is a great resource to find niche ideas as it shows niches where people like to consume content.
Q. If you were getting on a plane taking a quick 2 hour flight home and you are browsing the magazine stand that every airport has – which magazine would you pick up?
Would it be about Camping, National Geographic, Cars, Arts/Crafts.
Have a browse through magazine.co.uk and start choosing some niche market ideas.

You should now have created quite an extensive list of niche ideas – for this example I am going to use a list of 10 niche ideas but hopefully you have way more than that – keep adding to this list every couple of months to keep it fresh and up to date.
My example list of 10 looks like this.
- Golf
- Cake Making
- Sign Language
- Personal Development
- Solo Travel
- Home Improvements
- Gardening Ideas
- Yoga
- Sleep Help
- Storm Chasing
