Choose Your Niche
In this lesson we will go through our list of niches that we have collected and check to see whether these ideas are worth pursuing, are they trending?
Note. – Don’t forget to change the search to Worldwide and Past 5 Years. (unless your brand is country specific)
Here is my sample list of 10 topics.
- Golf
- Cake Making
- Sign Language
- Personal Development
- Solo Travel
- Home Improvements
- Gardening Ideas
- Yoga
- Sleep Help
- Storm Chasing
Let’s look at each search term in Google Trends.
1. Golf

Golf is a seasonal sport – peaks during spring/summer and decreases in popularity in the autumn/winter
The only downside to a seasonal business idea is that you have to either take a hit during the quieter months or come up with a secondary idea that’s popular in the off season.
2. Cake Making

Cake making is a pretty steady idea consistantly hovering around the 50 mark – it shot up during covid to it’s most popular (100) because everyone started baking, but as life returned to normality it’s decreased down to it’s normal trend line (it’s actually fallen a bit under)
I think you could definitely make money in this niche due to it’s all year round steady state.
3. Sign Language

Sign Language looks very popular it’s lowest point over the last 5 years is about 60 and during covid it peaked up to 100 where alot of people learnt new skills (this is when I started to learn) – it looks like a very popular topic and it’s steady all year every year.
Definitely a niche where you could make money.
One for my shortlist.
4. Personal Development

Personal Development is a highly saturated space everyone and his dog has something to say on the subject.
January sees it’s spikes as the ‘new year, new me’ people come along and you get a trend until about Spring.
Could you make money in this space – absolutely! – but you are up against a ton of traffic.
5. Solo Travel

Solo Travel is a popular niche idea – with more and more men and women choosing to be single this market is trending massively.
You can clearly see the covid dip in the middle of the chart and over the last two years (2020/2022) you can see solo travel has really gained momentum.
It’s a topic that really interests me as I have traveled a fair bit myself, so to me this looks to be a solid choice.
Shortlisted.
6. Home Improvements

Home Improvements is a popular topic – it’s obvious peaks happen in and around Spring/Summer with a downtrend in December.
You can see the obvious peak when covid hit then the return back to it’s steady state at around 50-60.
The trendline shows that Home Improvements is steady all year round – there’s certainly potential within this topic because of it’s steady traffic.
I am always tinkering with D.I.Y projects around the home & garden so maybe I could venture into this space in the future.
7. Gardening Ideas

Gardening Ideas is obvioulsy going to be seasonal with popular months starting in Spring and Summer – you can see the high covid peak where a lot of people wern’t working so had time to get in the garden.
In it’s downtrends during winter search volume is very low – like any seasonal topic you have to have some sort of idea of what you’re going to do during these slower months.
8. Yoga

Looking at the trend for Yoga you can see that it has tailed off from August 2020 – normally being steady at around 75/80 with peaks at 100 we can clearly see lately that it is sitting on that 50 line.
Popularity has fallen for yoga it seems but it’s still steady and that’s the important bit – there is still a market to be had.
June is the most popular month for yoga shown by all the high peaks.
All in All a slight downtrend for yoga but nothing to worry to about.
9. Sleep Help

Sleep Help is a highly popular niche idea – consistantly in the top half (50-100) – I can see huge potential in this market just through it’s yearly consistency.
Shortlisted.
10. Storm Chasing

Storm Chasing is a popular hobby for some but is it worth starting a web-business in…
April, May and June tend to be popular months for Stormchasers if you take out the four obvious peaks you can see the general highest peak is around 50 – so it is a steady trend.
July, August and September interest tends to die off slightly.
I would be tempted to start something in this niche as their is obvious interest throughout the year – and I think with a good product you would be alright during the quieter months.
Conclusion:
Looking through these ten niche ideas there were four topics that stood out to me – they were:
Sign Language
Solo Travel
Sleep
Storm Chasing
I will create web businesses in ALL these topics overtime as I think thay can all be profitable but I need one to work on now and I believe Solo Travel is the one I am resonating with the most.
In the next lesson we will pick a micro-niche and start to plan out our business idea – in the meantime use Goggle Trends to see which topics on your list are worth persuing.
